Five months, Fall, and Feces

Did that title get your attention? I figured I had to make this post flashy, since you are probably looking for pictures of the Wacky Willhites in costume. That's not what you're getting, though. I do have a bunch of trick or treating pictures - and we looked pretty great, if I do say so myself - but I still have to upload them from the camera. I've been meaning to put these pictures up for about a week and a half, so I figured I would do a quick update post now so Halloween weekend can have the spotlight all to itself!

Since the last update, Cecilia has grown and changed quite a bit! She is now eating cereal twice a day, and really seems to be interested in having more food.
Every time someone around her is eating anything, she stares at the food and will occasionally try to grab for it. (Although she grabs paper and napkins out of my hands, too, so maybe she's not hungry and she's just a clepto.) If I can get around to making some baby food, I will probably start her on vegetables in the next few days. I have some carrots in the house, so we'll see if she'll be a beta carotene lover like her brother was. There's nothing quite as cute as an orange baby!

She's also rolling over on her own more frequently. She's been able to do it since three months, but she's never really wanted to. Now she's rolling a bit in her sleep, and she'll roll onto her tummy to play for a while. She's pretty strong, too. She cranes her neck all around while on her tummy so that she can follow the action. She's pretty close to being able to sit on her own, so we'll have to keep practicing that skill. She'll do it for a split second, but she's totally obsessed with her toes, so as soon as she reaches out to grab them she loses her balance and tips over!

She's still a big girl - nice chunky baby thighs and big ol' chubby cheeks! At her last appointment (4 months) she was 16 lbs and 10 oz which put her in the 95th percentile, but she was only in the 85th percentile for height at 25 and a quarter inches. But since that was already over a month ago, I'm sure she's much bigger than that.

Big brother is also growing and changing so fast. I can't believe that in 2 weeks he will be 3 years old! He's a pro at sleeping in the toddler bed now, and although he was on a brief nap strike a few weeks ago, he's back to taking a nap in the afternoon. (THANK GOODNESS!) He just finished a sports class at the park district, and he seemed to enjoy it. It was only 6 weeks long, but he seemed to get better behavior wise as the weeks progressed, so that was a relief!

The biggest change in Sully's life (he might prefer to call it an upheaval...) is that we started round 2 of potty training this week. (Our first attempt back in March came to an abrubt stop when Sully turned it into a battle of wills. It's still a battle of wills, but this time I refuse to surrender.) We ran out of diapers on Monday, and he had been told that it was his last package of diapers. So come Tuesday we went cold turkey. He's gotten really great at pulling down and pulling up both his pants and underwear, but that's pretty much the only skill he's mastered thus far. Yesterday we had some success with peeing in the potty, but today he all out refused. And don't even ask him about the poop... (Although in his defense it must be a pretty difficult transition to pooping in a seated position when you are used to being on your hands and knees with your butt in the air. He's a weird kid, I know.) Long story short, since he won't go poop in the potty, he waits until he's in a pull-up for bed. He poops in it, then takes it off of himself. It's really fun to clean up. So we're just going to keep plugging along while I try to keep as calm as possible. But it's so hard since this is probably the most frustrating (and possibly the most disgusting!) thing we've done as parents so far!

Okay - on to what you've all been waiting for! More PICTURES!

Here's my two cuties playing dress up. (Ok, I'll admit...I play dress up with Cecilia like she's a paper doll, but Sully picked out his outfit on his own - then willingly posed for the picture!)

We spent the first weekend in October at Grandma and Grandpa's and did lots of fall activities like picking gourds on the farm and going to the pumpkin patch.

We also checked out a corn maze near our house on one of Mark's few days off.

And we topped off our fall fun with lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Sweet Tomatoes!

So there are our fall adventures. I will try to get our Halloween pictures up this week, but it is me we're talking about, so I wouldn't hold your breath. So in case it's a while before I can get them up, here's one last picture of our cute little ghoul all decked out in her Halloween clothes. Happy Haunting!
